White Sox claimed RHP Penn Murfee off waivers from the Astros.
Murfee hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the 2023 season after suffering a setback over the summer in his recovery from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old righty represents a worthwhile gamble for the rebuilding White Sox, especially if he comes back healthy and they can flip him to a contending team at some point down the road.

Penn Murfee (elbow) has been pulled off a minor league rehab assignment due to renewed elbow discomfort.
Murfee appears highly unlikely to return this season after suffering a setback in his recovery from last summer’s Tommy John surgery.

Astros transferred RHP Penn Murfee to the 60-day injured list.
Murfee was claimed off waivers last month from the Braves and isn’t expected to be ready to contribute until around midseason after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. The procedural move clears a spot on Houston’s 40-man roster.

Astros placed Penn Murfee (elbow) on the 15-day injured list.
Murfee was claimed off waivers earlier this week after he was released by the Braves. The 29-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last season, but he’s not expected to be ready for baseball activity until sometime in June, making him a tough sell for fantasy managers to hold and stash.

Astros claimed RHP Penn Murfee off waivers from the Braves.
Murfee was removed from Atlanta’s 40-man roster earlier this week and quickly scooped up off the scrap heap by Houston. The 29-year-old reliever isn’t expected to be ready to contribute until midseason after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June.

    Braves released RHP Penn Murfee.
Murfee was non-tendered by the Braves in October after being claimed off waivers from the division-rival Mets, but then the Braves re-signed him in October. Now the Braves will move on from Murfee yet again. The 29-year-old righty reliever isn’t expected to be ready to contribute until midseason after undergoing right elbow surgery back in June, so it’s possible he’ll latch on with another team closer to that date.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #56
Braves re-signed RHP Penn Murfee to a one-year contract.
No word on the exact financial terms, but it’s a split contract for Murfee, who was non-tendered by the Braves just a few weeks ago after being claimed off waivers from the division-rival Mets. The 29-year-old righty reliever isn’t expected to be ready to contribute until midseason after undergoing right elbow surgery back in late June.

    Braves non-tendered RHP Penn Murfee.
Murfee, 29, was just claimed off of waivers from the Mets earlier in the week, but his stay with the Braves looks to have been brief. Murfee is currently in the process of recovering from surgery to repair UCL damage in his right elbow and isn’t expected to be ready to return until around the All-Star break.

Braves claimed RHP Penn Murfee off waivers from the Mets.
Murfee is on the move once again this offseason, this time to the division-rival Braves, after being claimed off waivers last month from the Mariners. The 29-year-old righty isn’t expected to be ready to pitch again until roughly midseason after undergoing surgery back in July to address UCL damage in his right elbow.

Mets claimed RHP Penn Murfee off waivers from the Mariners.
Murfee represents the first acquisition of the David Stearns era after getting caught up in Seattle’s offseason roster crunch. The 29-year-old right-hander likely won’t be ready to contribute for the Mets until at midseason after undergoing surgery back in July to address UCL damage in his right elbow. However, he’s been an extremely reliable middle reliever over the last two years in the majors, registering a sparkling 2.70 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 92/28 K/BB ratio across 83 1/3 innings (80 appearances). He’s a solid low-leverage depth addition to bolster New York’s bullpen mix heading into the offseason.
