  • CLE Relief Pitcher #44
Xzavion Curry was tagged for seven runs — six earned — in 3 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Rockies at Coors Field.
Curry’s three starts have produced a 5.68 ERA and a total of eight strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings. There aren’t really any interesting replacements available in Triple-A, so he’ll probably stick for now. Stretching out Pedro Avila as a potential rotation option might be one idea for the Guardians. Avila finished off today’s game with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
  • CLE Starting Pitcher #60
    Guardians activated RHP Pedro Avila.
One day after being traded to Cleveland, Avila will join the active roster. The 27-year-old was dealt by the Padres to the Guardians for cash and will add depth to Cleveland’s bullpen.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Guardians acquired RHP Pedro Avila from the Padres for cash considerations, The Athletic’s Zack Meisel reports.
The 27-year-old was designated for assignment last week, but will end up being a trade piece and land in Cleveland. He hasn’t put together his best stuff this season allowing eight earned runs in eight innings with a 9/6 K/BB ratio. If anything, he’ll be depth for Cleveland’s bullpen, but is a non-factor for fantasy managers.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Padres designated RHP Pedro Avila for assignment.
The right-handed barely missed out on a spot in the team’s Opening Day rotation, and has struggled mightily in his bullpen role. Adrian Morejon was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move to take his place in the bullpen.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila was hit hard in Tuesday’s Cactus League start against the Diamondbacks, giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits over 3 1/3 innings of work.
The 27-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out one on the afternoon. The Diamondbacks scratched out just one unearned run over the first two innings, but they broke through in a big way in the third. There, the Diamondbacks started the inning with three straight singles to push a run across, and Eugenio Suarez cleaned them up with a towering three-run blast. Through three starts, Avila hasn’t helped his chances of cracking the Padres’ rotation — posting a cringe-inducing 9.82 ERA, 2.32 WHIP and a 2/4 K/BB ratio across 7 1/3 innings.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila was absolutely throttled in his Cactus League debut on Saturday, giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits over one-plus inning in a loss to the Brewers.
The 27-year-old hurler also issued a pair of walks and didn’t record a strikeout in the contest. The Brewers pushed a pair of unearned runs across against him in the first inning as Avila made an error while covering first base on a fielder’s choice that would have ended the inning. He then allowed the first four hitters to reach in the second inning — including a three-run homer by Wes Clarke — before mercifully turning the ball over to the bullpen. Avila is in camp competing for a spot in the Padres’ Opening Day rotation, but this outing definitely won’t help his cause.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila finished his 2023 season strong on Sunday afternoon, piling up seven strikeouts over five shutout innings against the White Sox.
Avila took the hill instead of Blake Snell on Sunday with the Padres no longer in the mix for the postseason. The 26-year-old right-hander was terrific, allowing just three hits — all singles — in the game and failing to walk a batter. He generated 11 swings and misses on 81 pitches on the afternoon — eight of them on his changeup alone — while posting a CSW of 26 percent. He finishes the year with a 2-2 record, 3.22 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 54/25 K/BB ratio over 50 1/3 innings in 14 appearances (six starts).
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila notched his second victory of the season on Sunday, allowing just one hit over three shutout frames against the Athletics.
Avila punched out five batters on the afternoon while issuing one free pass. He came on in the fourth inning after Nick Martinez opened the game with three scoreless innings of his own. The 26-year-old hurler got eight swings and misses on 57 offerings on the day, posting a strong CSW of 33 percent. He now holds a solid 3.38 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 45/23 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings on the season.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila was annihilated by the Dodgers in a no-decision on Monday, surrendering seven runs on six hits and three walks in only 2 2/3 innings.
The 26-year-old right-hander struck out two batters in the abbreviated outing. Avila served up a pair of home runs in this one — a leadoff blast to Mookie Betts to start the home half of the first inning and a solo shot by Max Muncy as part of a five-run uprising in the fifth inning. He’ll attempt to turn things around as he carries a 3.63 ERA and 1.49 WHIP into Sunday’s showdown against the Athletics in Oakland.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #60
Pedro Avila picked up the first victory of his big league career on Tuesday night, firing 6 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball against the Phillies.
The 26-year-old hurler allowed just two hits on the night — both of them singles — but he also issued six walks while striking out only one batter. He was able to pitch himself out of any trouble though and threw up zeroes on the board all evening. Avila got just six swings and misses on 91 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of only 22 percent. Now 1-2 on the season, he’ll carry a terrific 2.19 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and a 38/19 K/BB ratio (37 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
