Henry returns to Philadelphia as extra catching depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley heading into 2025. The 27-year-old backstop hasn’t appeared in the big league sine the 2022 season when he got into 15 contests for the Marlins.

Henry was stretchered off and transported to a local hospital after being struck in the head by a backswing during Friday’s game for Triple-A Buffalo against Syracuse. The 26-year-old backstop is doing well as he rests and recovers, according to a team statement. The 26-year-old backstop signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays last December as extra organizational catching depth.

The 26-year-old catcher spent last season with the Brewers organization, hitting .294/.341/.454 with nine homers across 255 plate appearances at Triple-A Nashville. He will add depth at the catching position in the upper minors for the Blue Jays.

Henry passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and will remain with the Brewers as extra catching depth at Triple-A Nashville.

The Brewers needed to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Colin Rea to start on Thursday night, and it looks like Henry drew the short straw this time around. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as catching depth for the Brewers.

Henry was acquired last November from the Marlins in a small trade and will open the regular season at Triple-A Nashville as extra organizational catching depth.

Henry spent five years in the Brewers system before being traded to the Marlins in July 2021 for John Curtiss. The team will probably acquire another catcher to replace Omar Narvaez this winter, but if not, Henry would battle Alex Jackson for a gig backing up Victor Caratini. Batista, 17, hit .252/.348/.333 in the Dominican Summer League last season.

Henry is heading down to Triple-A after serving as the backup backstop to begin the year. He had just four hits in his first 28 at-bats, and even if he returns to Miami this summer, there’s no fantasy potential here.

The 24-year-old backstop, who came to the Marlins in the deal that sent John Curtiss to the Brewers, will be making his big league debut behind the dish against the Pirates on Friday. He has hit .266/.351/.390 with six homers and 27 RBI in 71 games in the minors this season.

The Marlins continue to bolster their minor-league catching depth, as Henry has put up some big numbers in the upper minors this season, hitting .297/.372/.390 with two homers across 172 plate appearances between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Nashville this season.
