Rockies optioned OF Zac Veen to Triple-A Albuquerque; reassigned RHP Diego Castillo, INF/OF Owen Miller, C Austin Nola and INF Aaron Schunk to minor league camp.
The Rockies continue to make completely baffling roster decisions. Their latest masterpiece involves the combination of jettisoning Nolan Jones to Cleveland at the absolute nadir of his trade value before shipping one of their top prospects in Veen to Triple-A instead of letting him play everyday in the majors. It’ll be Jordan Beck opening the year in right field with journeyman Nick Martini in left field. You can’t make this stuff up, seriously.
  • COL Shortstop #6
Rockies acquired INF Owen Miller from the Brewers for cash considerations.
Miller, who turns 28 this month, was a non-factor last season, going 5-for-27 in 14 games for the Brewers. The utilityman is a lifetime .239/.287/.345 hitter in 294 major league games dating back to 2021, and he’ll probably compete for a bench job in spring training.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers sent INF/OF Owen Miller outright to Triple-A Nashville.
The versatile 27-year-old was removed from the team’s 40-man roster on Monday to make room for Garrett Mitchell. He passed through waivers unclaimed though and will continue to function as extra depth for the Brewers at the Triple-A level.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers designated INF/OF Owen Miller for assignment.
With Garrett Mitchell coming off the 60-day IL, the Brewers needed an extra spot on the 40-man roster, so they decided to move on from Miller, who had been sent to Triple-A at the end of May. Miller had started the year strong for Milwaukee but is hitting just .185 on the season with a 39 percent strikeout rate. He’ll hope to get a shot with another organization.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers optioned INF/OF Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.
With Rhys Hoskins (hamstring) returning from the injured list on Friday, there was no longer room on the bench for Miller. He’ll return to an everyday role at Triple-A Nashville until his services are needed again at the big league level.
  • MIL First Baseman #6
Brewers recalled INF/OF Owen Miller from Triple-A Nashville.
Miller gets the call back to the big leagues over top prospect Tyler Black with Rhys Hoskins landing on the injured list with a hamstring strain. The 27-year-old went 1-for-12 in seven games for the Brewers earlier this season.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers optioned INF/OF Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.
Miller earns a ticket back to the minors after going 1-for-12 at the dish in seven contests since being called up back on April 16.
  • MIL First Baseman #6
Brewers recalled INF/OF Owen Miller from Triple-A Nashville.
Miller gets the call to join Milwaukee’s active roster as extra bench depth with Christian Yelich landing on the injured list with a lower back strain. The 27-year-old is capable of handling a number of positions defensively, but has been inconsistent at the dish over the last few years.
  • MIL Second Baseman #79
The Brewers optioned INFs Oliver Dunn, Vinny Capra and Owen Miller and RHP Janson Junk to Triple-A Nashville; Reassigned INF Tyler Black and LHPs Robert Gasser and Jared Koenig to minor league camp.
Dunn spent most of his 2023 season at the Double-A level within the Phillies’ farm system in Reading and slashed .271/.396/.506 with 21 home runs and 78 RBI across 505 plate appearances. The 26-year-old infielder definitely made his precense known at Brewers spring camp with a .876 OPS and nine RBI, but it wasn’t enough to keep him up in the majors. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him called up at some point during the season if he shows consistency at the Triple-A level or if there is a need in the infield due to injury.
  • MIL Shortstop #6
Brewers optioned INF Owen Miller to Triple-A Nashville.
Miller spent much of the middle of the year as a regular for the Brewers, but he was phased out at the end of July and didn’t get much of a chance this time around; he was 0-for-3 with a walk since being recalled on Sept. 1.
