  • CWS Right Fielder #22
White Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás to Triple-A Charlotte.
It’s been a struggle this season for Colás to carve out consistent playing time at the highest level as he’s batted a serviceable .273/.368/.273 with four RBI in 38 plate appearances over 13 games for the White Sox. It’s possible he’ll get more of an extended look once the club moves on from some of their veteran outfielder at the trade deadline in a couple weeks.
  • CWS Left Fielder #23
Andrew Benintendi is not in the White Sox’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Tigers in Motown.
It’s unusually to see Benintendi on the pine against a right-handed starter, but it looks to be nothing more than a regular day of maintenance for the 29-year-old outfielder. Tommy Pham will slide over and cover left field, with Gavin Sheets drawing a start in right and Oscar Colas getting a rare start in center field for the White Sox.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
White Sox recalled OF Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte.
Colas is up with Andrew Benintendi out with an Achilles issue. Colas hit .244/.358/.406 with five homers in 193 plate appearances in Triple-A, and while there was some fantasy promise in his profile, his lack of success in the past year-plus makes him not worthy of a roster spot in fantasy formats.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
Francys Romero reports that the White Sox plan to recall Oscar Colas from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
With Luis Robert Jr. nearing a return, the timing doesn’t seem optimal for the 25-year-old outfielder to get a real shot at playing time with the White Sox, so we’ll see how this one goes. Colas has hit .244/.358/.406 with five homers, 21 RBI and six stolen bases in 193 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte this season.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
White Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás to Triple-A Charlotte.
Well, that was fast. Colás was up for just one game with the White Sox and wound up going 0-for-1 at the dish. The 25-year-old corner outfielder will head back to the minors. No word yet on the corresponding move for Chicago ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Reds.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
White Sox recalled OF Oscar Colás from Triple-A Charlotte.
Colás will join Chicago’s active roster after the team placed Yoán Moncada on the 10-day injured list. The 25-year-old has gone 9-for-28 (.321 AVG) with one homer and four RBI in his eight games at the Triple-A level this season.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
Independent journalist Francys Romero reports the White Sox are recalling Oscar Colás from Triple-A Charlotte.
Colás appears headed back to the majors in the wake of Yoán Moncada’s early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Guardians with a left adductor strain. The 25-year-old, who struggled last year in his first exposure to the majors, was off to a nice start for Triple-A Charlotte, batting .321 (9-for-28) with one homer and one steal in eight contests.
  • CWS Right Fielder #22
Wbite Sox optioned OF Oscar Colás, RHP Davis Martin, LHP Sammy Peralta and INF José Rodriguez to Triple-A Charlotte; optioned LHP Jake Eder and RHP Josimar Cousin to Double-A Birmingham; reassigned Cs Edgar Quero and Adam Hackenburg, RHPs Edgar Navarro and Lane Ramsey, and LHPs Ky Bush and Fraser Ellard to minor league camp.
No real surprises here as Colás figured to be edged out of contention for an Opening Day roster spot after an influx of talent during the offseason. Meanwhile, Quero and Bush represent a pair of top prospects on the verge of making it to the big leagues relatively soon. It’s a bit surprising to see Eder heading back to Double-A, but he’ll get plenty of innings there to open the year.
  • CWS Center Fielder #8
White Sox acquired OF Dominic Fletcher from the Diamondbacks for RHP Chistian Mena.
This is a nice opportunity for Fletcher, who will probably have the edge over fellow trade pickup Zach DeLoach and Oscar Colás to take over as the White Sox’s right fielder against righties. Kevin Pillar likely will serve as the platoon partner against lefties. Fletcher doesn’t have the power or speed to be very interesting for fantasy purposes, but his all-around game is solid.
  • FA Center Fielder #17
Kevin Pillar has agreed to a minor league deal with the White Sox that will pay him $3 million if he makes the team, according to MLBTR’s Steve Adams.
Pillar is probably being assured of a roster spot here, but the White Sox will be able to wait until mid or late March to decide who gets bumped for him. Ideally, the White Sox would have signed someone better to serve as a caretaker in right, but at least Pillar will be content with a platoon role if Oscar Colás develops. If Colás fails to progress, Pillar would be a fourth major offensive liability to go along with Paul DeJong, Nicky Lopez and Martín Maldonado in the bottom half of the team’s lineup.
