    The Athletic’s Matt Gelb reported that the Phillies signed LHP Nick Vespi to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training.
    The 29-year-old had been with the Orioles previously and had posted a 3.88 ERA in 53 1/3 innings over the last three seasons. He should provide organizational relief depth for the Phillies.

    The news of Povich’s promotion broke yesterday, and now it’s official. The left-hander is the 9th-ranked prospect in Baltimore’s system according to MLB Pipeline and their 2nd-ranked pitching prospect. He had a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 75/21 K/BB ratio over 56 2/3 innings in his 11 starts in Triple-A this year. He’ll make his MLB debut against the Blue Jays on Thursday and has a chance to stick in the rotation with John Means out for the season and Dean Kremer working back from an arm injury. The team optioned Nick Vespi to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
