Mariners optioned RHP Cody Bolton to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned INF Michael Arroyo, LHP Jhonathan Díaz, RHP Adonis Medina, RHP Luis F. Castillo, C Jacob Nottingham and C Nick Raposo to minor league camp.
Bolton was the lone player from Seattle’s 40-man roster exiting big-league camp in the latest round of cuts. Arroyo is one of the Mariners’ top prospects and should reach Double-A at some point in the next few months. Díaz and Medina figure to make it to Seattle at some point as emergency stopgap options.
  • SEA Catcher #70
Mariners sent C Nick Raposo outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
Raposo was unclaimed after hitting the waiver wire Tuesday. The 26-year-old will likely be an option behind the plate for the Rainiers in 2025.
  • SEA Catcher #70
Mariners designated C Nick Raposo for assignment.
Raposo is now off the 40-man roster. The Mariners claimed the backstop off waivers from the Jays, and will likely report to Triple-A Tacoma if he goes unclaimed on the waiver wire.
  • SEA Catcher #70
Mariners claimed catcher Nick Raposo off waivers from the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays designated Raposo for assignment last week after the 26-year-old hit .206/.280/.340 with just eight homers, 33 RBI, and a 59/25 K/BB ratio in 280 plate appearances at Triple-A this season. Since he was claimed off waivers, Raposo has to be added to the 40-man roster, which means he’ll be squarely in the competition to be the backup catcher this spring.
  • TOR Catcher #70
Blue Jays designated C Nick Raposo for assignment.
Raposo was claimed off of waivers from the Cardinals in early August. The 26-year-old backstop had a rough season offensively at the Triple-A level, slashing a woeful .206/.280/.340 with just eight homers, 33 RBI and a 59/25 K/BB ratio in 280 plate appearances. There’s a decent chance that he passes through waivers unclaimed and continues to function as extra catching depth for the Jays.
  • TOR Catcher #70
Blue Jays claimed C Nick Raposo off waivers from the Cardinals.
Raposo was up briefly with the Cardinals earlier this season, but didn’t end up getting into a game. The 26-year-old Rhode Island native augments Toronto’s organizational catching depth at Triple-A Buffalo.
  • STL Catcher #70
Cardinals designated C Nick Raposo for assignment.
The Cardinals needed to free up a spot on the 40-man after today’s trade. Raposo was up briefly with the Cardinals in June, but he didn’t get into a game. He’s hit .193/.251/.349 in Triple-A this year.
  • STL Catcher #70
Cardinals optioned C Nick Raposo to Triple-A Memphis.
With Willson Contreras coming off the IL, the Cardinals are sending Raposo back down the Memphis. Pedro Pagés will remain the back-up catcher behind Contreras.
  • STL Catcher #40
Cardinals activated C Willson Contreras (forearm) off the 10-day IL.
It was a quick turnaround for Contreras who had surgery back in early May to repair a fractured left forearm when he was hit by J.D. Martinez’s swing. We should expect the Cardinals to ease Contreras in during the first couple of weeks with an extra day off or two, but his bat will be a welcome addition to the Cardinals’ lineup and fantasy lineups as well. Nick Raposo has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move.
  • STL Catcher #70
Cardinals selected the contract of C Nick Raposo from Triple-A Memphis.
Raposo will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game. It figures to be a short stint in the majors for the 26-year-old backstop with Willson Contreras (forearm) nearly back from the injured list. He gets the call to serve as rookie Pedro Pagés’ primary caddy with Iván Herrera hitting the injured list with a lower back issue. Raposo signed with St. Louis as an undrafted free agent back in 2021.
