Ramirez was designated for assignment by the club earlier this week to make room for Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He passed through waivers unclaimed. Ramirez has the option to reject the assignment in favor of free agency, but even if he accepts the 35-year-old can become a minor league free agent at the end of the season. Ramirez had a 6.08 ERA in 13 1/3 innings with the Dodgers this year, but was really good with the Yankees when he had a 2.66 ERA in 40 2/3 innings in 2023.

The Dodgers removed Ramirez from the 40-man roster after their deadline deals, but they’ll bring the veteran 35-year-old back up to help the bullpen. He will likely be a mid-inning option in this stint with the Dodgers.

Ramirez returns to the Dodgers’ bullpen mix ahead of Thursday’s game against the Diamondbacks after spending the last few weeks in the minors. The 34-year-old southpaw has made six relief appearances this season in his Los Angeles debut.

Ramirez will be eligible to pitch in both games. He’ll then report back to Triple-A Oklahoma City, assuming the Dodgers don’t make a move after the game to place him on the official active roster.

The left-hander lasted just one day on the big league roster this time around, giving up three runs on five hits and a pair of walks over 2 1/3 innings against the Reds on Thursday. Ricky Vanasco was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move on Friday to replace him in the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Ramirez provides Los Angeles with a fresh reliever heading into Thursday’s series opener against the Reds at Dodger Stadium. The 34-year-old southpaw has recorded a pristine 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 2/3 K/BB ratio across seven innings (five appearances) this season in his Dodgers debut.
