Marlins sent INF/OF Nick Gordon outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
Gordon went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 28-year-old, who struggled to a .627 OPS with eight homers and five steals in 95 games this season for Miami, will most likely wind up electing free agency, but could opt to stick around for Miami until the end of the year.

Marlins designated OF Nick Gordon for assignment.
The newly claimed Derek Hill is taking Gordon’s spot on the roster, though it’s Cristian Pache who will likely end up with most of Gordon’s at-bats. Gordon has always lacked plate discipline, but he did used to hit the ball hard. Unfortunately, that’s been lacking this season after he missed most of 2023 with a fractured leg. He had a 44% hard-hit rate and a 90.6-mph average exit velocity in his career coming into this season. In 2024, he’s come in at 30% and 86.1 mph.

The Marlins are designating OF Nick Gordon for assignment, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com.
Gordon is out of minor league options. Miami acquired Kyle Stowers to play left field at the trade deadline and added centerfielder Christian Pache after the Orioles placed him on waivers. Those moves make it tough to also justify a spot for Gordon on the roster. The 28-year-old hit .227 with a .627 OPS and 32 RBI for the Marlins this year.

Bryan De La Cruz is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the White Sox.
De La Cruz gets a break after going 1-for-8 over the first two games of the series against Chicago. He’ll take a break with Nick Gordon playing left field in his absence.

Nick Gordon (illness) remains absent from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the White Sox.
Gordon hasn’t appeared in a game since last Saturday and will now miss his fifth straight game due to illness. It’s unclear whether he’s feeling well enough to be available off the bench, if needed. The timing is unfortunate since he was really starting to heat up at the dish, batting .286 (6-for-21) with one homer over his previous seven contests.

Nick Gordon (illness) was held out of the Marlins’ starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game on Friday night.
Gordon hasn’t appeared in a game since last Saturday and will now miss his fourth straight game due to illness. It sounds like he’s getting closer to a return though, so the Marlins will continue to take things on a day-to-day basis rather than utilizing a backdated stint on the injured list. Dane Myers will draw a start in right field and bat sixth for the Marlins on Friday night against Drew Thorpe and the White Sox.

Gordon took Aaron Nola deep for a solo homer in the second inning to put the Marlins on the board. He got on base with a single in the ninth for his second hit of the day. Nick Gordon went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Royals.
Gordon’s RBI single in the seventh inning tied the game at 1-1, giving the Marlins life after being shut down by Seth Lugo for six innings. Gordon’s single paved the way for him to later score on an RBI single by Jazz Chisholm, which was enough for the Marlins to earn a surprise win over the Royals.

Nick Gordon went 2-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases on Wednesday, lifting the Marlins to a 9-1 victory over the Padres.
Every starter in Miami’s lineup, with the exception of Bryan De La Cruz, recorded at least one hit in a nine-run, 16-hit offensive explosion on Wednesday afternoon at Petco Park. Gordon singled twice and notched his third career multi-steal performance in this one. He’s up to five homers and five steals through 51 games this season in his Miami debut.

Nick Gordon is not in the lineup for the Marlins on Sunday against the Mets.
The Marlins are loading up with right-handed bats against Sean Manaea, so Gordon and Jesus Sanchez are getting the day off. Dane Myers is starting in right field while Emmanuel Rivera also enters the lineup as the third baseman.
