    Orioles released RHP Nick Avila.
Avila cleared waivers after being DFA’d last week. He had recently gotten lit up for Triple-A Norfolk after missing seven weeks with a shoulder injury, so he can probably be written off for the rest of this year. He still might have a future as a middle reliever, though.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #58
Orioles designated RHP Nick Avila for assignment.
Avila was claimed off waivers from the Giants in June even though he was out with a shoulder problem. He’s since returned, but it’s been a struggle; after a successful rehab stint in A-ball, he’s given up 10 runs in 1 1/3 innings over three appearances for Triple-A Norfolk. He’ll probably clear waivers this time around.

Orioles claimed RHP Nick Avila off release waivers from the Giants.
The Giants were hoping to release Avila and re-sign him to a minor league deal, but the Orioles stepped in here. Avila couldn’t be placed on typical outright waivers because he’s currently down with a shoulder injury. The 26-year-old, who made his major league debut earlier this season, might be able to contribute as a middle reliever once healthy. He had an 8.49 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for San Francisco, but he’s typically been quite good in the minors.

    Giants released RHP Nick Avila.
Avila was up-and-down a few times for the Giants, but now is off the roster entirely as they created room for Spencer Bivens to be added to the 40-man roster and the active group. Avila is now free to sign with anyone.
  • SF Relief Pitcher
Giants optioned RHP Nick Avila to Triple-A Sacramento.
Avila is sent back to the minors to make room for Blake Snell with Snell activated off the paternity list. Avila will probably get a chance to help the bullpen for the Giants again at some point in the coming months.
  • SF Relief Pitcher
Giants recalled RHP Nick Avila from Double-A Richmond.
Avila has pitched 9 2/3 innings with the Giants this season, posting a 9.31 ERA with 16 hits allowed. It hasn’t been much better at Triple-A Sacramento where he pitched to a 6.56 ERA in 8 1/3 innings and was demoted to Double-A just yesterday. However, with Blake Snell going on the paternity list, Avila will get another crack at helping the big-league bullpen.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #7
Padres place LHP Blake Snell on the paternity list.
Congratulations to Blake and his family. The left-hander will miss the next few games to be with his partner and should return in time to face the Phillies. Perhaps they will be kind to the new father as he looks to lower his 11.40 ERA and 2.07 WHIP. Nick Avila was called up in a corresponding move.

Giants optioned RHP Nick Avila to Double-A Richmond.
That’s tough. Avila hasn’t pitched in Double-A since 2022, but he’s struggled at Triple-A this season and also hasn’t impressed while giving up 10 earned runs over 9 2/3 innings in his two major league stints.
  • SF Relief Pitcher
Giants recalled RHP Nick Avila from Triple-A Sacramento.
Avila posted a 7.04 ERA in 7 2/3 innings during his first stint with the Giants last month. He’ll resume working in middle relief, though he might be up for just a few days.

Giants optioned RHP Nick Avila to Triple-A Sacramento.
Avila is sent back with Luke Jackson coming off the injured list from his lower back strain. Avila will likely be an up-and-down organizational depth option for the rest of 2024 now that he’s on the 40-man roster.
