Billy Eppler was hired as the Angels’ new general manager in October, leaving a hole directly under Brian Cashman in the Yankees’ front office. A former Red Sox infielder will fill it.
According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York, the choice to replace Eppler is Tim Naehring, who played all eight of his major league seasons (1990-1997) with Boston and then got hired to scout for the Yankees in 2007. He was a scout for the Reds before that.
Naehring will take the title of vice president of baseball operations and assume all of Eppler’s assistant general manager duties.
Now 48 years old, Naehring hit .282/.365/.420 in 1,872 career major league at-bats.
