Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw was nearly unhittable as usual tonight against the Padres, blanking them over seven innings of work. The lefty allowed just three hits and walked two while striking out ten, improving to 15-9 and lowering his ERA to 1.88. Not that Kershaw needed to do anything else to ensure that the NL Cy Young award is his.
The outing is Kershaw’s fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season. It was also the ninth time in 32 starts that he threw at least seven shutout innings. The last came on August 22 against the Marlins.
Also of note in tonight’s game: Yasiel Puig hit a tape-measure shot to center, over the batter’s eye at Petco Park. As MLB has been unhelpful with embedding videos lately, you can click here to watch the tater.
The Dodgers wrapped up the NL West title yesterday, but are still competing for home-field advantage in the National League. Tonight’s win, their 89th, leaves them two games behind the Braves and Cardinals with seven games left in the season.
