Joe McEwing joined the White Sox’s coaching staff as third base coach, so today they replaced him as Triple-A manager with Joel Skinner, who served as the A’s bench coach this year and was the Indians’ manager for a half-season in 2002.
Given his coaching and managing experience Skinner seemingly would have been a fit on first-time manager Robin Ventura’s rebuilt coaching staff, but instead he’ll manage the Charlotte Knights in the International League.
Skinner played for the White Sox from 1983-1986 and the 50-year-old former catcher spent more than a decade filling various roles in the Indians organization.
