White Sox fire bench coach Mark Parent

Mark Parent White Sox

It remains to be seen if Robin Ventura will stay on as the White Sox’s manager next season, but Chicago wasted no time parting ways with one of his key coaches.

Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports that bench coach Mark Parent has been fired, effective immediately, which means the White Sox felt strongly that he shouldn’t be allowed to coach the final three games of the season.

Parent, who played 13 seasons in the majors as a .214-hitting backup catcher, joined Ventura’s coaching staff for the 2012 season after managing in the minors.

Merkin speculates that the White Sox will look to hire a replacement bench coach who has previous MLB managing experience, which seems to suggest they plan to keep Ventura around but think he needs more help than he’s received in the past as a first-time manager.
