The Phillies were nearly resigned to watching their 6-5 lead evaporate in the bottom of the seventh inning when reliever Edubray Ramos walked the first two batters he faced, Derek Norris and Jose Rondon. But Ramos was plucked out of harm’s way when Jabari Blash hit a grounder to third baseman Maikel Franco, who stepped on the third base bag for the first out, threw to second baseman Cesar Hernandez for the second out, and first baseman Tommy Joseph received the throw from Hernandez for out number three for a 5-4-3 triple play.

It’s the sixth triple play completed this season. For the Phillies, it’s their first triple play since August 23, 2009 when Eric Bruntlett completed an unassisted triple play against the Mets. The last time the Padres were victims of a triple play was on May 18, 2014 against the Rockies.
