As announced Wednesday on the official Twitter account of the Detroit Tigers Media Relations Department, the club has decided to non-tender right-handed relievers Al Alburquerque and Neftali Feliz.
They are both now free agents.
Feliz posted a disappointing 6.38 ERA in 48 innings this past season between the Rangers and Tigers. He was due for a final-year-of-arbitration raise from the $4.125 million he made in 2015 and Texas couldn’t justify committing that kind of money to a pitcher who has been horribly inconsistent since undergoing Tommy John surgery in late 2012.
Albuquerque also struggled in 2015 -- to the tune of a 4.21 ERA and 1.55 WHIP -- yet would have seen a bump from the $1.725 million he made in his second arbitration year.
These cuts will save the Tigers more than $7 million.
