The Reds were 0-for-27 to begin the 2010 postseason, but Brandon Phillips just changed the conversation early this evening, slugging a leadoff home run against Roy Oswalt for an early 1-0 lead.
Of course, Phillips famously made the final out in Roy Halladay’s no-hitter in Game 1 on Wednesday, so he has redemption on his mind. Oddly, this is the first leadoff home run of his career. Pretty good timing, I’d say.
Not only was it the Reds’ first hit and run of the series -- and the team’s first postseason hit since Eddie Taubensee during the NLCS against the Braves in 1995 -- but it also broke a steak of 30 consecutive scoreless innings against the Phillies. The Reds were shutout by the score of 1-0 in consecutive games by the Phillies from July 10-11.
