The Yankees gave Robinson Cano’s old number to Scott Sizemore

The Yankees didn’t wait long to turn the page on Robinson Cano. As Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News points out, his old No. 24 has a new owner:

Sizemore, a non-roster invitee after missing most of the past two seasons with ACL injuries, has a legitimate chance to make the Opening Day roster given the questions in New York’s infield. He previously wore No. 29 with the Athletics, but Francisco Cervelli has that number with the Yankees.

If Sizemore makes the team, he’ll be the first player since Cano to wear No. 24 for the Yankees since Sidney Ponson in 2006. I know what you’re thinking: how was it not retired in the first place? For shame, Yankees. For shame.
