Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Marlins made a five-year contract extension offer to second baseman Dee Gordon. Gordon, however, is seeking seven years.

Gordon, 27, excelled in his first year with the Marlins, winning the National League batting title with a .333 average, while also leading the majors in hits and stolen bases (205, 58). The Marlins acquired him in a trade with the Dodgers last winter, also acquiring Dan Haren and Miguel Rojas in exchange for Austin Barnes, Chris Hatcher, Andrew Heaney, and Enrique Hernandez.

Gordon earned $2.5 million this past season and is entering his second of four years of arbitration eligibility. He won’t become a free agent until after the 2018 season.
