Well, this is embarrassing.

The Marlins had a 16-minute rain delay during their Opening Day contest against the Braves this afternoon. It was a first in the history of Marlins Park and not exactly something you would expect in a stadium with a retractable roof.

How did this happen? Marlins president David Samson told Joe Frisaro of MLB.com that he made the call to leave the roof open before the game:

“I tried to predict that a cloud would go north; it went south on top of our ballpark,” Marlins president David Samson said. “The roof closed as quickly as I could get it closed, short of me pushing it. So we had a 16-minute rain delay, which was the first at Marlins Park.”

Let’s just say that Samson doesn’t have a future in meteorology.
