The Cubs release renderings of the new and improved Wrigley Field

Wrigley Rendering

The Cubs have released renderings of the proposed renovations to Wrigley Field. They’re not half bad:

Wrigley Rendering

As you can see, the jumbotron is the most obvious change. Less obvious but perhaps more significant is the alteration to the bleachers. Several rows are to be removed so that a party patio thing and new signage can go there. CSN Chicago has the full rundown of all of the proposed changes (all of the artist’s renderings can be seen here) which include expanded concessions, more accessible concourses, more restrooms, overhauled clubhouses and the like.

It’s ambitious. It’s also pretty necessary. Because while the field itself remains beautiful, everything else about Wrigley is antiquated and/or inconvenient. Changes are necessary. And, if the Cubs can get past expected opposition from the people who own the buildings on Waveland Avenue who have historically enjoyed rooftop views into the park, changes are coming.
