The connection between Mike Olt, Austin Jackson, and Chicago

On Sunday, the White Sox inked outfielder Austin Jackson to a one-year, $5 million contract, bolstering their outfield. To make room for Jackson on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated infielder Mike Olt for assignment. Olt cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte.

It seems like a typical roster move, but something very statistically unlikely has happened. You see, a Chicago team had previously acquired Jackson and designated Olt for assignment to create roster space. That was at the end of August last year when the Cubs picked up Jackson from the Mariners. Check it out on Olt’s Rotoworld page:

Olt must be feeling like it’s Groundhog’s Day.

The 27-year-old was once a highly-touted prospect in the Rangers’ system but hasn’t been able to do much at the major league level. He owns a career .580 OPS in 400 big league plate appearances spread out over parts of three seasons. Olt will serve as corner infield depth with the White Sox.
