Athletics closer Sean Doolittle is dealing with a “slight” tear of his rotator cuff, but as Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports, he isn’t expected to miss much time following the beginning of the regular season. Doolittle suffered the injury during his off-season throwing program.
Doolittle, 28, transitioned seamlessly into the closer’s role, finishing with 22 saves, a 2.73 ERA, and an 89/8 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings.
Tyler Clippard, acquired last month in a trade with the Nationals, is expected to handle save situations while Doolittle is out.
