Ryan Kalish underwent shoulder surgery yesterday and initial reports had him potentially being ready by May or so, but the actual recovery timetable put forth by the Red Sox is much less optimistic.
Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that he’s expected to be sidelined for at least six months and “might not be ready to start baseball-type activities until August.” In other words, it’ll be a lost season for the former top prospect whose career has repeatedly been derailed by injuries.
Kalish turns 25 years old in March and hasn’t produced much since 2010, so it’s tough to consider him a big part of the Red Sox’s plans at this point.
