Left-hander Ross Detwiler passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Rangers last week and has been released.
Detwiler turned down an assignment to Triple-A and will instead hit the open market after allowing 37 runs in 43 innings for the Rangers. He previously had a solid six-season run with the Nationals, splitting time between the rotation and bullpen with a 3.82 ERA in 471 total innings.
Now that the Rangers are on the hook for his entire $3.45 million salary Detwiler should draw some interest in a middle relief role, but the 29-year-old may need to put together some good outings at Triple-A first.
