Report: Giants getting “aggressive” for free agent third baseman Chase Headley

Pablo Sandoval left a void at third base for the Giants when he signed a five-year, $95 million contract with the Red Sox last month, but FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal hears that the club is “turning aggressive” in their efforts to land free agent Chase Headley. It’s unclear how this affects their pursuit of left-hander Jon Lester.

We heard earlier this week that Headley already has a four-year offer on the table worth $65 million from an unidentified team. The Yankees would surely like to retain him, but they aren’t willing to go to five years in order to do it. The Marlins have also been linked to Headley, though it appears that the $65 million offer didn’t come from them.

Headley turns 31 in May and batted .243/.328/.372 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI over 135 games this past season between the Padres and Yankees.
