Back in June we learned that Casey Affleck had committed to write and direct a movie about Josh Hamilton’s life and now Mike Fleming of Deadline reports that Relativity Media has purchased the rights.

Relativity Media is the studio behind such movies as “Limitless,” “Season of the Witch,” “Shark Night 3D,” “Immortals,” “Haywire,” “Act of Valor,” and “Mirror Mirror.”

Affleck’s only previous directing job was “I’m Still Here,” which was that weird quasi-documentary starring Joaquin Phoenix acting more or less insane.

Hamilton’s story is definitely movie worthy, although considering he just hit the free agent market, is basically mid-career, and has continued to struggle with some off-field issues the timing might be a bit premature.
