Anthony DeSclafani, previously slated to start on Opening Day for the Reds, is dealing with a strained oblique, per C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer. He’s tentatively scheduled to pitch the Reds’ sixth game of the season, at home on April 10 against the Pirates.
Raisel Iglesias will get the Opening Day nod instead. He’ll take on the Phillies in a home start on April 4. Iglesias, 26, put up a so-so 4.15 ERA over 95 1/3 innings last year, but he really started to impress towards the end of the season. From August 1 through the end of his season on September 13, Iglesias had a 3.13 ERA with a 62/15 K/BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings. Few will be surprised if Iglesias ends up putting together an All-Star-caliber season for the Reds.
The Reds signed Iglesias out of Cuba in June 2014 on a seven-year, $27 million contract.
