Quote of the Day: Ned Yost on the dynamic of spring training

San Francisco Giants v Kansas City Royals

Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star asked Ned Yost about how spring training feels. Good answer from Ned:

“It feels different about four times over the course of spring training. The first day you get here, it’s always fun. Then it starts to get boring. And then you can hardly wait for all the players to get here. Then it’s here, and you’re glad. And in a couple days, it starts to get boring. You can hardly wait to start playing games. Then you play games for 10 days, and it starts to get boring. Because you’re not playing for anything, and you’re chomping at the bit, ready to go, waiting for the season to start.”

That sounds about right. Or, as my friend Emma Span puts it each spring:

Sure it’s great that real baseball is that much closer, but spring training is still a six-week dry hump.
