Drew Naylor, a 25-year-old right-hander in his sixth year in the Phillies system, underwent Tommy John surgery, the Inquirer’s Matt Gelb reports, and likely will be sidelined into 2012.
Naylor had been on the shelf with an elbow injury since the spring. He went 12-10 with a 4.63 ERA and a 113/44 K/BB ratio in 167 IP for Double-A Reading last year. He was on the Phillies’ 40-man roster, though he wasn’t regarded as a top prospect after his lack of progress the last two years.
A native of Australia, Naylor pitched in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, giving up three runs in one-third of an inning his only appearance.
