The Yankees are probably going to be without reliever Pedro Feliciano to open the year.

According to Chad Jennings of The Journal News, the veteran left-hander was unable to make a scheduled appearance Sunday due to a triceps muscle injury. The Yanks are optimistic that it’s something he will be able to get over by the second or third week of April, but he’s feeling discomfort now and they aren’t going to risk it.

Feliciano, 34, was handed a two-year, $8 million contract this winter with an option for 2013. He posted a healthy 3.30 ERA last season for the Mets and a 3.03 ERA in 2009.

Steve Garrison is likely to make the Yankees’ Opening Day roster in his place.
