Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Padres GM A.J. Preller will sit down with first baseman Wil Myers’ agent this week to discuss a contract extension. Myers, who turns 26 years old in December, is entering his first of three years of arbitration eligibility. A contract extension would likely cover his remaining arbitration years plus a year or two into his free agency.
Myers hit .259/.336/.461 with 28 home runs, 94 RBI, 99 runs scored, and 28 stolen bases over 676 plate appearances this past season. It was his first full season since debuting in 2013 and his best performance to date.
