Tim Stauffer’s comeback from elbow surgery will begin at Triple-A, as Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres have decided to send the veteran starter to the minors.
Stauffer made just one start last season and struggled this spring with an 8.74 ERA in six appearances.
When healthy he’s been a very effective pitcher for San Diego, throwing 341 innings with a 3.24 ERA from 2009-2011, but Stauffer is 31 years old and has logged more than 100 innings in a season just once.
