The Padres have returned pitcher Jandel Gustave to the Astros, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports. Gustave was selected by the Red Sox in the Rule 5 draft in December, was sold to the Royals shortly thereafter, then placed on waivers in late March and claimed by the Padres.
Gustave, 22, has a power fastball that can reach the high 90’s and even 100 MPH at times. However, he has always struggled with control, having walked 146 of 956 career batters faced (15.3%) at the minor league level. Drellich notes that Gustave will report to Double-A Corpus Christi to begin the season.
