Orioles walk off to beat the Twins. There was pie.

Update (9:17 PM EST): Apparently, it was a cake, per MASN’s Roch Kubatko. Looked like a pie. Maybe this will help spur a debate over when a cake becomes a pie. Or vice versa.

You may recall in February that the Orioles banned the club’s celebratory pie-in-the-face tradition -- popularized by outfielder Adam Jones -- citing safety concerns. As fate would have it, the Orioles walked off to beat the Twins on Opening Day, with Matt Wieters breaking a 2-2 tie with a single up the middle in the bottom of the ninth inning.

After the game, there was pie, contrary to the Orioles’ new rules. Jones hit Wieters in the face with a cake that had orange frosting, as you can see in this .gif posted by MASN on Twitter.

Wieters, who accepted the Orioles’ $15.8 million qualifying offer during the offseason, is looking to play his first full healthy season since 2013.
