Orioles re-sign Steve Johnson to minor league contract

According to MASN’s Roch Kubatko, the Orioles have re-signed right-hander Steve Johnson to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Johnson was limited to 13 appearances at Triple-A Norfolk last season due to a shoulder injury that eventually required surgery. He did not pitch in the majors and probably won’t crack the O’s Opening Day bullpen in 2015 even if his shoulder is 100 percent.

But the 27-year-old native of Maryland could become a factor in relief for Baltimore at some point this season. Johnson registered an excellent 2.11 ERA and 46/18 K/BB ratio across 38 1/3 innings (four starts, eight relief appearances) with the Orioles in 2012.
