Michael Kohn has been shut down after experiencing a setback with his forearm injury and the Angels reliever is scheduled for a visit with Dr. James Andrews tomorrow.
Kohn was initially shut down during spring training, but attempted to resume throwing after an MRI exam showed only a strained flexor tendon. Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register reports that he advanced only to playing catch before the discomfort returned, at which point the Angels shut him down again and called Dr. Andrews for a second opinion.
Obviously it just seems like every single pitcher who visits Dr. Andrews ends up needing surgery--there are at least some who avoid going under the knife--but it’s certainly not good news for the hard-throwing 25-year-old right-hander who has a 3.32 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 76 innings at Triple-A.
