Abreu hit .238 with a .667 OPS in 142 plate appearances for the Mets between April 22-August 4 and then got released on August 10, but he re-signed with the club a few days later and is now getting another look as a September callup. The 40-year-old outfielder registered a .979 OPS this season at Triple-A Las Vegas.

The Mets entered play Sunday with a 67-75 record. They’re in fourth place in the NL East.
