The Mets announced on Wednesday that reliever Jeurys Familia has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder soreness. The contract of reliever Ryan O’Rourke was selected from Triple-A Syracuse.
Familia, 29, blew the save on Tuesday night against the Reds, surrendering two runs on three singles and a walk while recording two outs. He worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning prior to that. Thankfully for him and for the Mets, they ended up winning 4-3 in 10 innings. On the season, Familia is 0-for-2 in save situations with a 6.28 ERA and a 15/13 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings.
Following Tuesday night’s game, manager Mickey Callaway gave Familia a vote of confidence, saying, “I saw a guy that was lights out for five outs.” Callaway added, “His stuff is undoubtedly there.”
O’Rourke, 31, put up a 4.61 ERA with 14 strikeouts and six walks in 13 2/3 innings with Syracuse to start the year. He’ll be used in low-leverage spots while Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo will likely pitch in setting up for closer Edwin Díaz.
