According to Rick Hummel and Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa confirmed earlier today that Matt Holliday will not require a stint on the disabled list following his appendectomy last Friday.
“He is not being disabled. He’s making enough progress now that he’ll be back before 15 days. So we’ll keep it going, without adding anyone (to the roster).”
Holliday was expected to be shut down from all physical activity for five days following the procedure, but he played catch and did some sprints prior to tonight’s game against the Pirates. He told B.J. Rains of FOX Sports Midwest that there has been some talk about him swinging a bat for the first time Thursday.
The Cardinals are still holding out hope that Holliday will be able to return to the lineup for this weekend’s series against the Giants.
