Just as rotation-mate Jacob deGrom did last week, Matt Harvey said today that he’d be open to signing a long-term contract extension with the Mets.
Upon arriving at Mets spring training camp Harvey told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York:
Not exactly a news-breaking quote, but Harvey simply being open to an extension will be key if the Mets approach him about a possible deal between now and Opening Day.
Harvey is making $4.325 million this season in his first year of arbitration eligibility and is under team control through 2018. At some point the Mets are going to be facing some very tough (and very expensive) decisions with their young pitching stockpile, but that’s still a bit off in the distance.
