According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, doctors have given Mets right-hander Matt Harvey the go-ahead to throw for the first time since Tommy John surgery.
Mets pitching coach Dan Warthen said that Harvey expects to begin throwing in a few days. The 24-year-old will start out on flat ground before working his way back to the mound and eventually to game action.
Not surprisingly, Harvey is holding out hope for a late-season return, but the Mets don’t see that as a realistic possibility given that he had the surgery in late October last year. However, he should be ready to go for the start of 2015 if he can avoid setbacks.
