Mark Trumbo’s recovery from a fractured foot has taken much longer than expected, but the Diamondbacks left fielder said yesterday that he’s “good to go” and wants to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.
He’s been out for two months, so not surprisingly the Diamondbacks want to be a little more cautious about their plans for his return. Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic reports that he’ll definitely go on a rehab assignment, probably for at least a week, but that may not happen for a while because Trumbo hasn’t even started running the bases yet.
In fact, according to McManaman both manager Kirk Gibson and general manager Kevin Towers have indicated that Trumbo may still be another month or so from returning to the lineup. He was initially expected to miss six weeks and that was back in mid-April.
