In the eighth inning of last night’s Yankees-Rangers game Mark Teixeira attempted to score from second base but was thrown out at home on a strong throw. As soon as he was called out he showed his frustration, looking back at third base coach Joe Espada with some “why did you send me?” gestures. Then, afterward, he showed more frustration, tossing a trash can around. Watch:

After the game, both Teixeira and Espada said the fault was Espada’s, as he told Teixeira “easy, easy,” as he rounded third, meaning there was no need to go home hard. Which, welp, was just wrong. Also worth noting that Didi Gregorius was behind the plate and was not signaling Teixeira to get down.
Stuff happens I guess. But it’s been a while since we’ve seen a can-tossing or water cooler busting type of thing in baseball. Must be a signal that August is coming.
