According to formal announcements from both clubs, the Dodgers have traded right-handed pitcher Joe Wieland to the Mariners in exchange for minor league infielder Erick Mejia.

Seattle designated right-hander A.J. Schugel for assignment to clear a 40-man roster spot for Wieland, who will give the team some much-needed organizational rotation depth. Wieland is likely to open the 2016 season at Triple-A, where he owns a 4.34 ERA and 123/31 K/BB ratio in 145 career innings. The 25-year-old has a 5.85 ERA in 47 2/3 career major league frames.

Mejia, a 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic, batted .282/.346/.339 with 20 stolen bases in 51 games last season between four different levels of the Mariners’ minor league system. He’s not much of a prospect, but Mejia does have good speed on the bases and decent range on the middle infield.
