Update (11:21 PM EST): Schwarber is being evaluated for a sprained left ankle, CSN Chicago’s Patrick Mooney reports. X-rays came up negative and he will undergo an MRI on Friday.

Cubs outfielders Kyle Schwarber and Dexter Fowler converged in an attempt to catch a Jean Segura fly ball in left-center field in the second inning of Thursday’s game against the Diamondbacks, but the two collided. Segura was able to turn the opportunity into an inside-the-park home run.

Replays showed Schwarber taking the brunt of the collision and he was clutching at his leg. Hopefully it’s not as serious as it looked. Schwarber was unable to put weight on his leg and had to be carted off. Kris Bryant moved to left field from third base and Tommy La Stella came in to play third.

If Schwarber needs to go on the disabled list, Jorge Soler should see the lion’s share of the playing time in the outfield.

The Cubs should provide an update on Schwarber’s status soon. We’ll pass word along here when that happens.
