With a strikeout of Eddie Rosario to end the fourth inning on Wednesday afternoon, Justin Verlander registered his 2,000th career strikeout. He is the 76th member of the 2,000 strikeout club and only the second Tiger with the credential along with Mickey Lolich. Among active pitchers, Verlander trails only CC Sabathia (2,595), Felix Hernandez (2,184), Jake Peavy (2,141), and John Lackey (2,012).

Verlander finished the afternoon going 7 1/3 innings, yielding three runs on six hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts in the Tigers’ 6-3 victory over the Twins. It’s his second double-digit strikeout performance of the season. Verlander still has a high ERA at 4.58 but has a solid 60/20 K/BB ratio in 57 innings.

The Twins might’ve been just the medicine the Tigers needed. They swept the Twins at Comerica Park, improving to 19-21. Manager Brad Ausmus has reportedly been on the hot seat, but if his team can start winning, Ausmus might buy himself some more time.
