Josh Beckett pitching again this season is “probably not very possible”

Josh Beckett

Dodgers right-hander Josh Beckett has been on the disabled list with a torn hip labrum since early August and manager Don Mattingly told Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register that his returning to pitch again this season is “probably not very possible.”

Beckett may end up needing surgery, but hasn’t made a decision on that yet.

Before the injury he had an excellent bounceback season, throwing a no-hitter against the Phillies on May 25 and posting a 2.88 ERA in 20 starts overall. Last season Beckett went 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA and was limited to just 43 innings.

He’ll be a free agent this offseason after finishing up a four-year, $68 million contract, so the surgery decision is a big one for the 34-year-old.
