The Mariners won their Cactus League opener Wednesday against the Padres, but it was not a totally problem-free afternoon in Peoria, Arizona.
Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that Mariners prospect Ji-Man Choi suffered a fractured right fibula when he tried to get to an overthrown ball at first base in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s 4-3 victory. Choi had to be carted off the field and will obviously miss a large chunk of the 2015 season.
The 23-year-old first baseman from Incheon, South Korea batted .282/.386/.403 with six home runs and 35 RBI in 74 games last summer. He was suspended 50 games in April for a positive PED test.
