Hyun-Jin Ryu landed on the disabled list late last week due left shoulder inflammation, but it sounds like his absence from the Dodgers’ rotation could be brief.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly told reporters this afternoon that Ryu is pain-free and will begin a throwing program tomorrow. Dr. Neal ElAttrache didn’t feel that an MRI was necessary, which is a positive sign. Ryu told reporters via his interpreter last Friday that he dealt with a similar situation in 2011 and was back to normal in about 10 days. The Dodgers would obviously sign up for that.
Ryu has a 3.00 ERA and 31/11 K/BB ratio in 39 innings across seven starts this season, but he was knocked around for five runs on nine hits over five innings in his most recent start on April 27 against the Rockies.
